The Seafarer Workforce Report 2021 from the Baltic and International Maritime Council (BIMCO) and the International Chamber of Shipping (ICS) forecasts a shortage of 89,510 STCW-certified officers by 2026. At the same time The Women in Maritime Survey 2021 unveiled that only 2 % of the sailing seafarers are females. What can be done to attract, get and retain more women on board ?

The 30th edition of SMM was everything we hoped for. After a long period of pandemic restrictions, it offered 2,000 exhibitors from all technology areas in the maritime industry, as well as more than 30,000 visitors from over 100 nations, the opportunity to finally meet in person again in Hamburg.
