Wir stellen was aus! / We exhibit something!

Hi Embassy-Enthusiast:in!

Hi Embassy enthusiast!

The Burner Embassy is not just there only for fun, but also to actively promote art and culture. We now want to achieve this additionall with individual event evenings and exhibitions at the Haus der Statistik.

We are still discussing the when and what of the evening events, but we have now blocked a period for our first exhibition, from May 3, 2024 (vernissage) to May 12 (finissage). We want to put on a group exhibition with works by artists who have already exhibited individually at Regional Burns or Burning Man or played a significant role in a cooperative art project there.

The rented space will be rather small and elongated (28 m2), but is directly on Otto-Braun-Straße with doors and windows facing the street (https://hausderstatistik.org/raeume-mieten/#otto-workshop1). Smaller pictures and sculptures would therefore be an advantage. Also, interactive art more closely matches the specifics of the Burning Man art concept, but this is not a must. The space is dry and warm, and we will take care of both security and hopefully insurance.

So far the plan is to open the exhibition every day from 14-18 in addition to the vernissage, Crafternoon on the first Saturday and the finissage. More events that tie in with this are of course also conceivable, e.g. talks with the exhibiting artists. Above all, however, we need helpers for the preparation, the construction and also for the whole weekdays.

If this appeals to you, as an artist or as a helper, please contact Owl (owl@berlinburner.de), I will coordinate these activities.

At least two more exhibitions are planned after this first one, then probably more as solo exhibitions.

P.S.: The Burner Embassy Berlin will also host additional ArtBaer-Cafés for Art-Baer-nterested people, those thinking about art there, those setting up a camp there, etc.

Burner Embassy Berlin: Aktuelle Pläne Frühling 2024 und regelmäßige Veranstaltungen / Current plans spring 2024 and regular events

The Burner Embassy Berlin celebrated its fourth birthday on December 1, 2023 and is slowly starting into spring. We are still on site every Wednesday 8-10 pm (sometimes even longer), with your snacks and drinks, on the fourth Wednesday of the month also as Berlin Burner Pasta Potluck. In addition, on the first Saturday of the month there is always the Crafternoon from 2-6 pm for joint fabric and other creations, and on the third Saturday the Burning Man Film Café with documentaries about Burns and our participatory culture.

Please keep in mind that the Burner Embassy Berlin is also a DIY and co-creation space for the Burner community and beyond. It is relatively easy to organize your own small events in the free times, just contact Owl (owl@berlinburner.de).

At the moment, it looks like the Burner Embassy Berlin will end next year with the end of the construction phase at the Haus der Statistik if we don't find an alternative location. However, in order to make good use of the time until then, not only for us but also for the city and its cultural scene, we are currently discussing two alternating series of events:

  • One Friday evening every other month use of the large room at the Haus der Statistik for an evening event, be it films by Burners, theater, Burner Bingo, etc.
  • Every other second month Friday evening (vernissage) until the following week Saturday evening (finissage) a small exhibition of art by Burners in the rooms facing the street.

We are still looking to see what fits into which month. Personally, we would prefer the 3rd Friday of each month. If this also appeals to you, please get in touch with Helga (helga@berlinburner.de).

P.S.: If you would like to receive event notifications in your own calendar and don't like Facebook, we have also set up a Meetup group for the Embassy: https://www.meetup.com/de-DE/burner-embassy-berlin/. (The other social media platforms will continue to exist)

Welcome Home!

"The Burner Embassy Berlin - Center for Art and Participatory Culture - is celebrating its 4th anniversary as one of the original pioneer uses at the House of Statistics. During this time, we have offered over 200 public events (and even more internal ones) and have persevered as a purely donation-funded space in the face of the pandemic.

The Burner culture is characterized by experiencing and participating. Whether it's artworks, other constructions, or the events themselves: someone has to do it, but in most contexts here, there are no paid forces. People donate their free time, their skills (sometimes even their money), or learn something new along the way: working with wood, organizing various aspects of events, supporting volunteers in their work, and whatever else comes up. Lifelong learning from each other, for a cause, or simply for oneself.

The concept of art in Burner culture is defined by (interactive) sculptures where touching is not forbidden. This way, art can be experienced, and sometimes it is explicitly temporary. At larger events, such artworks are often burned like a bonfire to make room for something new and to counteract the museification of things, of art (keyword 'immediacy').

From this collective effort (as it sometimes also occurs here at the House of Statistics), trust and contact are established, and there are also ongoing joint projects and collaborations that often keep active people busy throughout the year. In our community, there are actually no spectators, only participants, even if some (and outsiders' perspectives) do not recognize this difference.

It's the same at our birthday. There's already a small program, but you are welcome to participate with spontaneous or planned ideas, as space allows. So far, we have a short film screening, Burner Bingo, a photo gallery, a Christmas photo booth, and more on the agenda (plus mulled wine). We look forward to seeing you!
